Offense Specific Treatment of
Aggressive Youth (OSTAY) Program

Offense Specific Treatment of Aggressive Youth Brochure - Adobe Acrobat

El Pueblo brings a holistic and multi-disciplinary approach to treating each child using a cognitive behavioral model, the El Pueblo Performance Program for Youth©. There are four integrated components: clinical services, education services, milieu services, and recreation and leisure services.

The mission of the El Pueblo School is to meet the diverse needs of our students. We focus on the development of the whole learner within a structured environment of educational excellence.

Education

Our curriculum is in alignment with the Colorado Department of Education standards. Residents attend school six hours per day and earn credits towards their graduation. GED classes are available for students as well. School is held year-round and summer programming affords opportunities for students to maintain achievement levels as well as pursing creative endeavors. All teachers are either endorsed or licensed in Special Education or working on the process.

Clinical

Clinical therapy in the Offense Specific Program (OSTAY) is driven by standards set forth by the Colorado Sex Offender Management Board. Residents attend three Offense Specific groups per week, individual and family therapy. Informed Supervision classes are available for parents. Therapy incorporates a cognitive behavioral approach to treatment.

Individualized treatment plans are integrated with programming to address multiple issues within this population. Therapy includes anger management, healthy sexuality and other psycho-educational topics necessary to function safely in the community. Substance abuse treatment is based on the 12-step program and developing healthy, drug free lifestyles.

Milieu

Residents live in home-style therapeutic cottages. Each cottage has 12 residents who learn daily life skills of cooking, self care, household maintenance, budgeting and share therapeutic activities. Cottages are self-contained and have their own Rehabilitative Services Team comprised of staff from clinical services, education services, recreation and leisure services, and milieu, which meet on a weekly basis to insure program consistency for each resident. Each cottage has 24 hour nursing staff available and an on-call therapist .

Recreation

The recreation program helps residents explore positive leisure activities to promote a rounded development of interests. A wide variety of sports activities, creative pursuits, Student Council and the miniature horse program gives expression to rewarding outlets of energy. Religious services are available and particular cultural needs are provided. When residents have achieved advancement in their treatment, they may participate in community service projects and other leisure activities in the community. Opportunities are available for Residents with Community Service obligations.

Residents in the OSTAY Program are required to complete ongoing safety plans for activities. The recreation program helps residents practice safety skills and apply treatment concepts in the community. Random urinalysis testing is procedural when residents return from off –campus activities.

The Program incorporates discipline, consistency, safety and positive reinforcement. The primary goal of each component is to restructure the child’s thoughts, perceptions and beliefs. to foster emotional and behavioral change.
