AWARDS

2005

Patty Erjavec, President and CEO is named as the 2005 Administrator of the Year by the Colorado Child & Adolescent Mental Health Coalition for her commitment and dedication in guiding El Pueblo…an Adolescent Treatment Community in the delivery of services to adolescents and their families as she creates a Culture of Excellence.

Through her guidance and leadership, El Pueblo…an Adolescent Treatment Community has worked to fulfill its mission* and has grown into a sophisticated residential treatment community that provides superior therapeutic intervention for at-risk boys and girls, ages 10 – 18, from throughout the state of Colorado.

*Mission Statement:  El Pueblo…an Adolescent Treatment Community is a private, non-profit organization serving the needs of at-risk youth and their families.  By creating an environment of safety and loving care, youth and their families learn the skills they need to become productive members of the community.

Vision Statement:  El Pueblo is a financially secure youth treatment center meeting the needs of a diverse population from an expanded community – by maintaining the highest standard of care.

Philosophy: We believe that all children have the potential to do well.  With appropriate care and nurturing, the children have the possibility of achieving success.

El Pueblo’s vision and philosophy is unique and sets them apart from any other Residential treatment facility.  It tells internal and external stakeholders that El Pueblo...an Adolescent Treatment Community is different, and they are prepared to communicate what makes them singular and unequaled.   The Team has developed standards of practice that produce high quality services that enhance positive youth development, strengthen families, neighborhoods and communities, and improve the integration of the juvenile justice and child welfare system.  Under Patty’s leadership El Pueblo ensures that all services are provided in a manner that demonstrates respect for the cultural and ethnic diversity of neighborhoods and communities.

Patty, the strategic leaders, and staff of El Pueblo are strongly committed to the Residents and the organization.  El Pueblo believes that all children have the potential to do well and with appropriate care and nurturing, the children have the opportunity to achieve success.   In order to provide more chances for success, the Leadership Team developed a residential treatment model, the El Pueblo Performance Program for Youth (Program).   The Program, which is a cognitive behavioral model, offers each youth an opportunity to have input regarding his/her Program and goals and positively reinforces appropriate decisions and behaviors.

The Program incorporates a fully integrated system that includes:  education, addiction education/recovery, mental health therapy, recreation and daily living skills.  The Program teaches skill development, self-development, social application, and leadership skills which help the youth regain their self-esteem, self-confidence, and in many areas, to learn a new way of living and interacting.   The youth progress through the Program according to his/her own behaviors and accomplishments.

Service to children and families
The Leadership at El Pueblo practice and teach selfless service to the staff working with the children and their families.  In addition to treating the youth, the Leadership recognizes the importance of families and the value of their participation in therapies when it is appropriate.

Consistent Leadership
The Leadership is committed to Program integrity and work cohesively in the delivery of the Program.  Additionally, they realize that the effectiveness of the Program requires on-going changes that are supported by continuous monitoring, evaluation and quality review, and regular internal auditing of the policies and procedures.  To support this continuous improvement, the Leadership has developed superior outcome-based tools to provide measurements.  Also, Patty and the Leadership Team regularly solicit input from customers to identify areas of need.  And, in spite of tough economic times, the Leadership works diligently to meet those needs.  Under Patty’s direction, El Pueblo is creative in its fiscal management and is successful in “thinking outside the box” to maximize funding from the state and to secure additional resources needed to build the infrastructure and deliver the necessary Programs for the youth.

Clear sense of professional responsibility and commitment to continuing professional development
Currently, Patty lead the organization in creating a 5-year Strategic Plan for El Pueblo that fully articulates a Culture of Excellence.  The areas identified as priorities are:  strengthening customer service, strengthening the Program, strengthening the education component, and developing a clinical marketing component.  Patty is also working to internalize and articulate its seven core values to the customers it serves:  Integrity, Respect, Trust, Compassion, Accountability, Selfless Service and Fun.  Additionally, Patty and the Leadership Team is focusing on higher levels of education for direct care staff and emphasizing the importance of receiving a thorough core training in concert with ongoing training, as well as other formal professional development activities.
