 COMMUNITY TO COMMUNITY TREATMENT PHILOSOPHY

Wraparound is an approach to implementing individualized, comprehensive services within a system of care for youth with complicated multi-dimensional problems.

Treatment Philosophy

Any child who meets the admission criteria set forth by El Pueblo and who is accepted into its’ program shall receive the prescribed treatment without prejudice to race, color, creed, gender, sexual orientation or socio-economic background.

El Pueblo believes that its’ clients have the capacity to succeed in the community with support and guidance from a team of natural and formal supports.  All clients’ opinions and their views of life experiences are respected.  Clients’ views of self are validated and a positive approach is offered to build on their strengths and culture to address their identified needs and goals.  Effective support is rendered with sensitivity, compassion, and respect to the dignity of the clients and their families; never with ridicule, shame or intimidation.  Support is not punitive in nature, nor does it dwell on the negative behaviors, but emphasizes the client’s and their families’ strengths and culture in support of positive (re)integration to the community.

El Pueblo’s primary concerns in treatment are to meet the needs of the client and their family, rather than the therapeutic agent.

Through the Wraparound philosophy of care, the child and their family are involved in a definable planning process that results in a unique set of community services and natural supports individualized for that child and family to achieve a positive set of outcomes.

Treatment Approach

The Wraparound philosophy of care is guided by an ecological perspective.  Development occurs in the context of interactions between the child and his/her environment.  Services and supports are individualized, built on strengths, and meet the needs of children and families across life domains to promote success, safety, and permanence in home, school, and community.

With the youth and their families as full and active partners in every level of the Wraparound process, teams are developed involving the family, child, natural supports, agencies, and community services working together to develop, implement, and evaluate the individualized service plan.  Services are provided through the use of flexible approaches that are culturally competent, building on the unique values, preferences, and strengths of children and their families, and their communities.

The plan is focused on typical needs in life domain areas to include family, living situation, financial, educational/vocational, social/recreational, behavioral/emotional, psychological, health, legal, cultural, safety, and others.

The U.S. National Wraparound Initiative has developed the concept of phases and activities of Wraparound practice, to describe the overall tasks of the process:

·        Phase One:  Engagement and Team Preparation
       S
trengths/Needs/Culture/Vision discovery, immediate crisis stabilization, functional

assessment, team formulation.

·        Phase Two: Initial Plan Development.
Plan of Care, detailed crisis/safety plan.

·        Phase Three: Implementation
Implement plan, progress/successes reviewed, documentation and logistics, team cohesiveness.

·        Phase Four:  Transition
Purposeful transition out of formal Wrapround to a mix of formal and natural supports in the community.  Plan for follow-up.
