On September 24, 2010, at 11 a.m., El Pueblo had an official ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the new Artistic Recreational Creative Humanities (ARCH) Center. Planning and funding for the building began in 2007 and a major fund-raising effort took place at last year’s Bid ‘n’ BBQ.  The building was renovated as a center of excellence, to inspire creativity, promote literacy and engage in diversity through its theater, computer lab and creative arts area. There is also a convenience store for the children where items may be purchased through positive behavior resident incentive programs. Guest speaker Commissioner Jeff Chostner officiated the formalities of the event, as well as Sherri Baca, president & CEO and Joe Cervi, board chair, who made a formal dedication to the building and the youth served at El Pueblo. The guest of honor for the event was Dr. Camila Alire, past-president of the American Library Association from 2009-10. Her roots are from the San Luis valley and she is presently dean emeriti at the University of New Mexico and Colorado State University in Fort Collins. Hispanic Business Magazine named her as one of the 100 most influential Hispanics in the country. To represent El Pueblo’s 50th anniversary, the kids from El Pueblo presented a time capsule which will be hid away in the ARCH Center, with instructions to open it in 50 years.

El Pueblo Goes Green with Solar EnergyAugust 26, 2009 - El Pueblo Goes Green

El Pueblo...an Adolescent Treatment Community commits to “go green” by constructing a solar energy field, through a 1 million dollar gift from SolarMR, Pueblo Colorado.

El Pueblo is the first Therapeutic Residential Childcare Facility (TRCCF) to make this commitment in the State of Colorado. The solar energy field will provide El Pueblo the opportunity to cut energy costs by at least 20 percent, as well as educate the youth on renewable energy and conservation.  The energy cost savings will allow the facility to redirect the funds back into the programs for youth at El Pueblo.

Tree Memorial & Honorarium Program

The most meaningful memorial or honorarium is one that will benefit coming generations. Remembering someone with a living tree is an act of love for them, their families, and our earth. This is also an opportunity to give a tribute to your loved one, a deceased friend or relative, or to remember a special occasion or acknowledge an outstanding achievement.

Cost of the living tree program is $250. This includes the tree, plaque and continued maintenance of the tree (fertilizer, pruning, mulching, etc.). After the tree is planted, the contact person will receive a certificate and the location for each tree.

Get The Gaggle Off My Lawn!

This FUN-draiser will support our youth through the purchase of supplies for our summer enrichment activities.

For just $25 you can have a gaggle of geese placed on a friend’s lawn during the month of May. (No, not a REAL gaggle of geese, but one dozen plastic geese...less mess!!) Your friend will awaken to find these pleasant lawn decorations in their front yard. This is all in good fun!

If you would like to have a gaggle migrate to a friend’s yard, call Jolynn at 719.404.1353 for more information about this campaign. Thank you for your sense of humor and your support.

Mother's Day Tea

The girls at El Pueblo will host an annual Mother’s Day Tea for their mothers, or other important female role models. In preparation for this event, the young ladies complete an etiquette class that focuses on the following topics: Being a Young Lady, Respecting Yourself and Others, Table Manners, Dress for Success, Confidence and Self-Esteem, and Healthy Relationships. The girls send invitations to guests and then dress up for the event, sitting down to tea, cookies and petite sandwiches with the staff and the invited guests. There is also a poem contest and a reading. This event is special and we would like to invite you to be a part of it by sponsoring a mother/daughter. For as little as $25 you can help provide the treats, clothing, games and etiquette classes for our girls! As a thanks, you will receive a copy of the winning poem from one of the girls.
